CDC I6214EVM is an evaluation and demonstration board for graphical LCD, which is designed by Dallas Semiconductor Corporation. This evaluation board is widely used in wide range of applications. For example, it can be used for industrial automation, commercial product design, telecommunications, automotive instrument panels, ATMs, etc.The main purpose of this evaluation board is to provide a graphical LCD with the ability to display information through its use of internally generated display and control signals. It can be used in combination with the TMS320C62x DSP core to provide a full graphical user interface. Thus, the resulting system can provide a cost-effective and powerful display solution.The CDCI6214EVM board consists of two main components, a TMS320C62x DSP core and a graphical LCD panel. The TMS320C62x DSP core provides the central processing unit and memory for the LCD panel. The CDCI6214EVM also provides an interface with the external audio and video sources.The graphical LCD panel is specially designed to provide the necessary display properties for demanding LCD applications. It is composed of several components, such as an LCD controller and a display data RAM. The LCD controller is responsible for controlling the remaining components in the system, including the display data RAM and the backlight controller. The LCD controller is connected to the TMS320C62x DSP core via a communication port.The backlight controller, as its name implies, is responsible for producing the light emitted by the LCD panel. This is accomplished by generating various levels of illumination in an LCD panel, which depend upon the current power level being supplied to the LCD panel.The graphical LCD panel is connected to the LCD controller using a standard 8-bit parallel interface. This interface is used to transmit 8-bit pixels from the LCD controller to the graphical LCD panel. The LCD controller also contains a set of direct LCD control signals, which can be used to control and customize the display commands. CDC I6214EVM also includes several other components, such as two resistors, one condenser, a Schmidt trigger, two multi-mode connectors, two power switches, and four-pole quick connect. These components are used in combination to create a interface between the LCD panel and the TMS320C62x DSP core. The TMS320C62x DSP core also includes several other components for the LCD panel. These components include timers, counters, analog-to-digital converters, LCD SPI, and LCD SPI data buffers. The timer provides the requisite system clock necessary for the operation of the LCD panel. As for the analog-to-digital converters, they are used to generate the required voltage level for the LCD panel. Lastly, the LCD SPI and LCD SPI data buffers provide the necessary data transfer between the LCD panel and the LCD controller.Finally, the combination of the TMS320C62x DSP and CDCI6214EVM graphical LCD panels creates an effective display solution for industrial applications. The TMS320C62x DSP provides the necessary processing power and memory required by the graphical LCD panel. On the other hand, the LCD panel provides the display capabilities necessary for demanding industrial applications.
