Working Principle

The CDN150 fuse has two basic elements: a plug and a fuse element. The plug is usually made of porcelain and includes a terminal post for attaching conductors. The fuse element is made of a conductive material and is inserted into the plug. When an overcurrent passes through the fuse, the heat generated by the current melts the fuse element, breaking the circuit and preventing further current from flowing.

The operating characteristics of the CDN150 depend on the type of fuse element utilized. A dual-element type fuse, for example, offers high-speed interrupting and clearing ratings. This type is commonly used in high-voltage protection applications. A thermal-magnetic type is used to provide both short-circuit and overload protection.
