CDN fuses, commonly referred to as PC Board Mounted (PCMC) fuses, are UL recognized, 1206 packages that offer fast chip protection in a wide range of applications from cell phones to notebook computers. CDN fuses provide critical protection against short circuits, EMC disturbances and overvoltages.

CDN fuses are available in both standard and high performance product series and are designed to provide fast overcurrent protection in a variety of small, low-power circuits. The series is divided into classes, from general purpose to high reliability fused (High-Reliability). Specialty fuses in the series are also available that provide exceptional robustness and reliability in demanding environments.

The CDN70 series fuses are designed to effectively protect electronic circuitry against short circuits and EMC disturbances. The series provides robust electrical protection ensuring products and their components remain safe and functional. Constructed using UL recognized 1206 packages, CDN70 series fuses have current ratings from 200mA to 2.5A.

The operational principle of CDN70 series fuse lies in its fuse link design. The fuse link is a metal wire surrounded by an insulator. When too much current passes through the fuse, the metal wire heats up quickly and melts, breaking the circuit in the process. The melted metal wire thus acts as an open circuit and current is no longer allowed to pass through, effectively protecting the device.

The CDN70 series provide near instantaneous short-circuit protection with very little temperature dependence. The devices are designed to minimize the self-heating effect due to current flow, resulting in lower than 100µs tripping time at rated current. Operational temperatures range as high as 125°C and are optimized for safety and performance.
