Contactors are a hydraulic or electromechanical machine component that is used to switch an electrical circuit on and off. Application Field

The CGMS-12A-24-01 contactor is suitable for starting, interrupting or controlling 3-phase AC motors, and other applications requiring a continuous current up to 24 A. It is available in two standard frame sizes. Most commonly used in motor control and applications where a 25-32 A continuous load is required. This contactor is suitable for residential, commercial and industrial applications.

Working Principle

The CGMS-12A-24-01 contactor is constructed with a fixed and a moving contact. It has an operating coil, which in an energized state creates a magnetic field in the area of the electrical contacts and in the contact box. This magnetic field creates a force and pulls the two contacts together, which then conduct electricity. When the electricity is no longer needed, the magnetic field collapses, and the contacts move apart, thus breaking the circuit.

The contactor also features a Normally Open (NO) contact which is designed for quick trips. The NO contact opens when there is an electrical interruption, reducing the risk of a short circuit and providing additional safety protection. The CGMS-12A-24-01 contactor also has a Normally Closed (NC) contact, which remains continuously closed until the power is switched off from the controlling switch. This allows the contactor to be used to control large currents for long periods of time.
