CHL8112A-04CRT is a low voltage synchronous offset buck controller, part of the wide selection of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Controllers. The device integrates controls features and synchronous rectification, providing solutions for power supply designs with positive or negative voltage output rail. The 3 or 4 pin SOT-23 package options and low operating current, together with a 0.8V low dropout and 20uA shutdown current, make this device ideal for space-constrained applications, such as space-confined servers, routers and set-top boxes.
This device incorporates a low-voltage, high-current MOSFET driver with over-current protection (OCP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and undershoot protection (UVP) functions. The OCP is effectively sensing and controlling the current over the high-side MOSFET. The current in the high-side MOSFET is indicated over the OCP signal pin and when the high-side OCP threshold voltage is exceeded, a signal is sent to the over-current protection pin causing the device to go in the latch off mode, until the voltage falls below the OCP latch voltage.
This device allows adjusting the voltage output with its integrated gain regulator, even in the most unstable input voltage dropout conditions. The adjustment range of output voltage is 0.8V to 6.0V and its accuracy is approximately 1%.It is able to maintain the output voltage in 3 different operation modes: pulse width modulation (PWM) mode, voltage mode control (VMC) mode and frequency modulation (FMC) mode. The wide operating range for frequency further allows the design engineer to improve design flexibility and output noise attenuation.
This device has excellent efficiency compared to integrated linear regulators due to its adaptive on-time control architecture. As the load current changes, the CHL8112A-04CRT is able to maintain the switching frequency to optimize the efficiency. During light load, it increases the switching frequency to reduce the switching losses. Under heavy load, the frequency is reduced to reduce simultaneous switching noise. Furthermore, this device is also capable of running at a fixed frequency of up to 2.2MHz, providing design flexibility and simplifying the system tuning process.
In terms of its technical features, the CHL8112A-04CRT offers an adjustable current limit up to 10A. Its optimal on-time control improves the Transient Response, optimizes the efficiency and reduces the worst dumping-case output ripple. The minimum on-time requirement of this device is 14ns, making it ideal for high output power density applications.
The CHL8112A-04CRT also includes excellent feature protection mechanisms. These include undervoltage protection (UVP), low-ripple pulse width modulation (PWM) output current limiting, and over temperature protection (OTP). The OTP monitors die temperature, keeps the power MOSFET safe and keeps the current drain in check by reducing the output power if the die temperature rises above a certain threshold.
The CHL8112A-04CRT is an ideal solution for high-performance, low voltage point-of-load (POL) regulators and multiple output regulators. It offers a high level of flexibility and performance in a small package size, making it suitable for a variety of applications, including low-voltage computing, networking, storage, and industrial systems.
