Fixed Inductors

Fixed inductors separate and store energy by forming an electric circuit which opposes the flow of an AC current. The most commonly used fixed inductors are electric coils, made of insulated copper or aluminium wire wound in coils around a ferrous core. The CLS8D28NP-4R5NC is an example of such an inductor, with a rated DC current of 28A and a rated DC resistance of 4.5 ohms.

Application Field

Working Principle

Fixed inductors function by converting kinetic energy from alternating current (AC) or Direct Current (DC) into magnetic energy, which is then stored in the inductor\'s ferrite core. When a current passes through the inductor\'s winding, a magnetic field is created in the core, which either adds or subtracts energy depending on the direction of the current flow. This electromagnetic effect produces a mutual inductance that prevents the flow of current, resulting in a voltage which is inversely proportional to the applied current.

As the frequency of the applied current changes, the inductor\'s impedance increases or decreases accordingly. This impedance, and the inductor\'s ability to store and release energy depending on the frequency and current flow, is the principal function of the fixed inductor.
