CM3202-00DE Application Field and Working PrincipleCM3202-00DE is a special purpose voltage regulator, designed and manufactured by CML Microcircuits. It is a highly integrated voltage regulator, providing highly accurate local voltage regulation and moderate power dissipation. It is often used in automotive, aerospace, medical electronics and other fields. CM3202-00DE features includes flexible output voltage options, uses the bandgap reference circuitry for temperature-compensated to provide highly accuracy reference voltage, output current limiting and thermal shutdown protections, reverse current protection, and remote sensing to improve the output voltage stability. It can be used as a 3A DC-DC voltage regulator or a low dropout linear regulator. The CM3202-00DE consists of several functional blocks. First, there is the voltage reference, which supplies the voltage reference for the internal linear regulator. It utilizes the bandgap reference option, which provides higher accuracy of reference voltage over a wide temperature range. Second, there is the error amplifier, which is used to compare the reference voltage with the voltage feedback from the output, then adjust the gate signal of the series pass MOSFET accordingly. Third, there is the control logic, which provides protective and control functions. The control logic includes the UVLO (under voltage lockout), OVLO (over voltage lockout), output current limitation, thermal shutdown, etc. Finally, there is P-MOSFET which provides the series pass of the CM3202-00DE.When the output voltage of CM3202-00DE is above its preset value, the voltage feedback voltage will meet the reference voltage and goes further, the error amplifier will sense the difference and send the control signal to P-MOSFET to reduce the voltage feedback voltage. The P-MOSFET will be turned starting from its linear region, to reduce the voltage feedback voltage, and the output voltage of the CM3202-00DE will be stabilized. Similarly, when the output voltage of CM3202-00DE is lower than its preset value, the voltage feedback voltage will be lower than the reference voltage, and the error amplifier will sense the difference and send the control signal to P-MOSFET to increase the voltage feedback voltage. The P-MOSFET will be turned starting from its linear region, to increase the voltage feedback voltage, and the output voltage of the CM3202-00DE will be stabilized back to its preset value.CM3202-00DE applies series pass with single-channel P-MOSFET. It offers very low dropout voltage and greatly reduces power dissipation because the voltage drop of P-MOSFET will be much less than traditional discrete components. The output current is sensed by the current sense resistor. When output current reaches its preset limit, the control logic will shut down the circuit and the P-MOSFET will no longer be turned on. The MOSFET on CM3202-00DE is well protected against overheating due to over current, as well as high surge. The CM3202-00DE has a wide variety of output voltage options, from 2.5V to 10V. It offers output current up to 3A. With its low quiescent current of 0.4mA, low dropout voltage, the CM3202-00DE is the ideal solution for automotive, aerospace infotainment systems, medical and other applications where high reliability and accuracy is a must. Additionally, its reverse current protection, remote sensing and output current limiting functions eliminates many design and reliability risks.
