The CM5160 is an integrated circuit designed for the purpose of controlling motor speed in a variety of applications. It is a highly integrated, 4-channel, full-bridge microcontroller-controlled pulse-width modulated (PWM) motor control IC, with integrated MOSFETs, high-side current sensing and over-temperature protection. It is designed to provide improved motor control in comparison to more standard solutions, as well as improved fault signalling.

The application field for the CM5160 include high power brush DC motor control, stepper motor control and other high power applications involving some type of motor control. It can also be used for smaller applications such as fan control and control of small DC motors. Its feature of fault threat signalling makes it suitable for critical motor control applications such as those found in medical equipment and aerospace systems.

The working principle of the CM5160 is based on the pulse-width modulation (PWM) technology. It is a method of controlling the motor speed by varying the amount of power being supplied to the motor via a series of pulses.
