CM6149-104 is a common mode choke (CMC) which is applied in high frequency switching power converters. The application field of CM6149-104 is mainly for AC voltage mode typepower converters, DC/DC converters and motor drivers and is highly suitable to use in wide output voltage ranges. It is also used in various fields such as network applications, server power supply, power warning systems, automatic test systems and home appliances.
The working principle of CM6149-104 can be explained as: the construction of this choke is based on a central ferrite core which is composed of ferrite powder and resin. The central part of the choke is wrapped by a coil. This coil consists of a multitude of windings which are insulated from each other with a thin dielectric layer of insulation material. Then, this coil is placed in a cylinder which isolates it from the external environment. Due to the presence of dielectric layer and a cylindrical construction, the parasitic capacitances which can occur between the charger and the coil are suppressed thus allowing the CM6149-104 to maintain its high-frequency characteristics.
When a signal is applied to the CM6149-104, it collects and decouples common-mode noise coming from the supplying voltage source. The inductance limit of the CM6149-104 allows it to act as a filter for noise travelling in opposite directions. Due to this characteristic, it effectively reduces significantly spike noise due to its peak frequency which can be higher than 1 MHz.
The great thing about CM6149-104 is that it has an excellent attenuation performance across all operating conditions which makes it highly suitable for high frequency switching power converters. It also has an extended temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C which makes it suitable to be used in harsh environments.
