LED Indication - Discrete

The CMD2821SDRC/TR8 is an LED indication discrete with its applications and working principle. It is made of a dual-way (red/green) LED device with an LED die to emit coloured light. The integrated LED device has an integral resistors on the red LED side together with a LED current protection circuit for each LED diode. It is suitable for industrial, business and consumer applications and can be fitted with insertion machinery. The device is EMC compliant.

Application field

The CMD2821SDRC/TR8 is ideally used in industrial, business and consumer applications. It is suitable for applications requiring indicate status across varying voltages from 4.5 to 16.0V, such as to indicate whether an appliance is on or off, a temperature level has been reached, or when an arm has been activated on a circuit board. These indicators are commonly powered through the resistance of an active circuit. It can also be used as a warning indicator for alarms.

Working principle

The CMD2821SDRC/TR8 LED device operates on a low voltage DC supply. It contains two LED diodes that are colour-matched for each LED. When the LED device is powered, the LED current will flow through the LED current protection circuit and the corresponding LED diode, thus illuminating that LED. The LED tends to stay lit as long as voltage is supplied to the device.

The device also contains an integral resistor on the red LED side so that it can be used in most applications without needing to install an external current capacitor. This helps keep the total power dissipation of the device quite low, at about 1mW at a direct current of 20mA.
