Working Principle
The working principle of the CP2114-EK is based on the On-chip USB 2.0 protocol interface that maintains the USB-independent CAP layer and is integrated into the chip to manage a variety of USB-based functions. This architecture allows developers to interface directly with the USB-based host device on top of their own software stack and provides a compatible and robust solution for numerous systems. The CP2114-EK supports both full-speed (12Mbps) and low-speed (1.5 Mbps) modes of operation and includes a number of features such as UART data rate selection, clock and data rate synchronization, packet buffering, packet and byte synchronization, parity bit selection, and packet formats for packetized data. The CP2114-EK implements physical layer communication and protocol management up to layers 2 and 7 of the USB 2.0 Protocol stack. The advanced features of the CP2114-EK include advanced framing techniques, high-performance burst mode FIFO mode transfers, on-chip pull-up resistors, low-power low-emission design, and automatic detection, configuration, and enumeration. The CP2114-EK is a flexible and reliable solution for bridging existing USB-based systems to legacy UART interfaces. The fully calibrated and programmable external crystal oscillator ensures timing stability over wide temperature, and voltage ranges. The CP2114-EK also supports USB-driven interrupts, two general purpose I/O (GPIO) pins, as well as bidirectional I2C support with slave and master modes. The GPIO and I2C signals can be configured according to user requirements in order to interface with the device’s environment. The microcontroller of the CP2114-EK is powered by the USB bus and has the capability to act as an I2C slave or master depending on the user’s requirements. In addition to the CP2114-EK, the CP2114-EK evaluation and demonstration board and kit includes an external USB-to-UART adapter and a debug cable enabling the user to program and debug the CP2114-EK.
