The CP8412ATT is a touch-screen controller with data acquisition capabilities, used for data entry and retrieving both offline and on-line operations. Connected to an input device such as a digital keyboard, a touch screen display or a biometric device, the CP8412ATT reads input information and makes the data available immediately to be interpreted and used. The CP8412ATT has an USB interface port, allowing it to access a computer quickly and easily. It also has two serial port interfaces (RS-232, RS-485).

One of the main features of the CP8412ATT is that it is able to scan and recognize, with high speed and accuracy, symbols and patterns drawn by a digital pen on any kind of paper or other substrate with a special coating applied. It can also capture input from handwritten text, graphical, and 2D code data, such as quick response (QR) codes. This is the proper touchscreen controller for applications that require an accurate recognition of both hard-copy and soft-copy data, such as recognition of drawings or signatures in yearbooks, documents, or invoice and receipt forms. The CP8412ATT has both software and hardware pull out/through methods for data acquisition for offline operations. Data can be acquired by offline operations via either of these two methods:

• Software pull-out allows data to be acquired by having the controller user\'s computer interface connected to the controller, the user inputs commands to pull out the data stored in the controller memory.

• Hardware pull through is preferred when the data acquisition frequency is higher and involves the user\'s computer interface being connected to the controller and the data is instantly pulled to the controller memory.

In the hardware pull-through, the interface may have specific commands or protocols transmitted from the controller to the remote device. These protocols are determined by the type of interface used to connect the controller to the remote device. Depending on the protocol, different commands for data acquisition are sent from the controller, data is taken from the remote device, and the controller advances its operation accordingly.

The CP8412ATT has a Data Acquisition (DAQ) board with a selectable number of universal analog input channels and counters. In the DAQ board, each channel has two multiplexed signals and two independent digital inputs (either single-ended or differential-ended). These input channels can process data directly from devices such as thermocouples and RTDs. The CP8412ATT also has two universal digital output channels (either single-ended or differential-ended) to transmit data to peripheral devices. The DAQ board also supports data storage.

Also, the CP8412ATT has a selectable number of digital I/O ports which enable communication between the touchscreen and other devices, including the sensors, motion controllers, cameras and serial buses. The ports have a range of capabilities, such as an integrated timer/counter, an interrupt handler and a pulse-width modulator (PWM).

The working principle of the CP8412ATT touchscreen controller is simple. When a user presses on the screen, the controller reads the analog data from the screen and sends the data to the processor on the controller via the serial interface port. The processor decodes this data and sends the corresponding commands to the connected peripheral devices. This enables the user to interact with the touchscreen, enter information and access data.
