The CPC9909NE is an integrated power management IC (PMIC) specifically designed and dedicated to provide LED driver, associated LED LDOs and battery charging functionalities. This device presents an excellent cost effective multi-functional platform, providing all essential functional blocks required to develop medium to low power LED applications that demand either linear current regulation or fixed frequency PWM current regulation schemes with in-built LED dimming and LED fault detection features. When enabled in the current regulation mode, the CPC9909NE operates as a digitally controlled boost or buck-boost regulator ensuring highly efficient operation even with very low input voltage source.
Application Fields
The CPC9909NE is primarily targeted for medium to low power LED applications that may range from single LED driving up to 6 string configuration. Examples of such application fields can be found in automotive lighting such as park/reverse lights, rear wipers, head lights, instrument clusters etc. It is also suitable for LED backlighting applications such as LCD automotive displays, handheld devices, projectors, etc.
Workings Principles
The working principle of the CPC9909NE depends on the selected mode of operation. In the current regulation mode, the device sources the required current through a high power level PFET switch when needed and regulates the current to the desired level. The reference voltage is provided internally on the IC by a dedicated control loop. For PWM dimming control, SD pin is used to enable and set the desired duty cycle while SEL pin selects the mode of operation.
