The CS5211EDR14G is a DC/DC fixed frequency current mode control switching controller specifically designed for use in wide input (4.5V to 60V) isolated DC/DC converters commonly used in data communications and high power distributed power systems. CS5211EDR14G has built-in high-side and low-side MOSFET drivers, which are designed to provide high-speed switching for best efficiency. The CS5211EDR14G features a simple control loop with very few external components and provide good transient response performance under all input voltage/load conditions.

The CS5211EDR14G is a high-performance DC/DC switching controller well suited for a variety of data communications and distributed power system applications. It is ideal for distributed power systems where high current, fast transient response and wide input voltage are required. The CS5211EDR14G is suitable for -48V telecom power supplies, DCDC converters with power level over 500W, non-isolated Point of Load DC/DC converters and so on.

Working Principle

The CS5211EDR14G provides cycle-by-cycle current monitoring, under-voltage lockout, voltage feed-forward, current mode control, dead time control and external synchronized power shutdown function. When the input voltage is too low, the CS5211EDR14G will detect it, then start the UVLO (Under Voltage Lock Out) process, then the UVLO LED will light up. If the error condition is more serious, the CS5211EDR14G will turn the MOSFETs off, preventing damage to the system.

The CS5211EDR14G uses current mode control to output the exact reference voltage, the current mode control will compare the output inductance\'s current (bulk current) and the set reference current very closely. The MOSFETs will pulse regularly according to the comparison result, the pulse composes of two part, one is ON time, which includes the current charging time, and the other is OFF time, which offers the inductance to work and put the current out to the load.

The frequency of the CS5211EDR14G can be synchronized from external sources or self-contained with the 100kHz crystal oscillator onboard. The CS5211EDR14G will adjust the output voltage by switching frequency modulation, always ensuring stable output performance under varying input line conditions. Also the soft start time is settable from 1ms to 5ms.
