The construction allows an electrical connection to be made from the ring terminals on the top of the capacitor casing to the two electrodes (anode, cathode) on the inside block or element.

The main working principle is based on the Faraday\'s Law of electromagnetic induction. When a alternating electric field is applied to the tantalum oxide film between the anode and cathode electrodes, a charge will be induced on the film. This phenomenon is called electrolytic capacitance, and it forms the basis of a tantalum capacitor. The anodic layer acts as dielectric material to the electric field, while the cathode layer acts as a reservoir of electrons to maintain the charge on the capacitor.
