CY25100SXCFT is a complete frequency synthesizer solution combining a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) and a digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) integrated circuit (IC). The combination of a low-noise VCO and a digital DPLL enables flexible operation, including spur reduction and high frequency accuracy up to +/-50 ppm at frequency bands up to 2 GHz. It can be used as a frequency synthesizer, clock generator or clock multiplier in support of a wide variety of applications that require both frequency control and stability. It operates over the supply range of 1.8V to 3.3V, allowing it to be used in portable and mobile equipment.
The application fields of the CY25100SXCFT are broadband wireless communication systems and very demanding clock generation applications. In wireless communication systems, the IC can be used for frequency hopping, frequency synthesizer for Quadrature Modulation signals, and for fast frequency tuning. In clock generation applications, it can be used as a frequency synthesizer to generate clocks from a single reference frequency. It can also be used as a clock multiplier or a clock divider to generate multiple clock frequencies. Additionally, it can handle bursty clock and frequency requirements with superior performance.
The working principle of CY25100SXCFT is based on the PLL loop architecture. The circuit contains a VCO and a charge pump. The VCO is used to generate the output frequency and the charge pump is used to regulate the output frequency. The VCO is tunable between a minimum and maximum frequency. The charge pump generates a control voltage which is used to vary the tuned frequency of the VCO. The VCO then outputs its frequency to the PLL loop. This frequency is received by the PLL loop where it is compared to the reference frequency. If it is not equal, the charge pump generates a voltage to correct the difference. This process is repeated continuously until the output frequency is equal to the reference frequency.
The CY25100SXCFT also contains analog and digital filters which are used to improve the phase-noise performance of the device. The analog filter is located between the VCO and the output and is used to filter out any unwanted frequency components that are not a part of the reference signal. The digital filter is located between the PLL loop and the charge pump, and is used to filter out digital noise which may interfere with the operation of the PLL loop.
