CY28346ZC is a multi-function, high-precision clock/timing IC designed for use in specialized applications. It is capable of controlling 4 outputs, each of which can be programmed independently to generate a different frequency or phase offset. It is perfect for applications requiring precision timing control, such as communication networks and automotive systems.
The CY28346ZC’s featured outputs are 3 LVCMOS and 1 LVDS, and it can handle frequencies of up to 500 MHz. One of the 3 LVCMOS outputs can operate at up to 250 MHz and the others up to 64 MHz. In addition, the device can receive up to 8 separate reference clock inputs. Meeting any frequency or phase offset the application needs is made easy with the CY28346ZC.
Programming the CY28346ZC is simple when done through the pins of the device, but can get complex if multiple outputs of different frequencies and phase offsets are desired. The SP (Select Pin) Pin allows for programming of the CY28346ZC to choose between three preset frequency sets, and the FR (Frequency Register) Pin allows for programming of the output frequency. For multiple outputs and phase offsets the SR (Shift Register) Pin can be used in conjunction with the FR Pin. To properly program the intended frequency, developers must take into account the timing ripple caused by each option.
Once programmed, the CY28346ZC relies on four internal circuits: A fractional PLL with integrated Dual Modulus Prescaler (DMP), a fractional N counter with associated low-pass loop filter, An 8-bit Dividers Chain, and a Condition Monitor with thermometer-coded Output Disable Function. The PLL counts and synthesizes the chosen reference signal to the desired frequency, while the output dividers chain breaks this signal into the intended frequencies. The Condition Monitor is used to monitor two system conditions (voltage, temperature, and/or configuration) and will take the device out of lock and signal when an undesired condition is reached, protecting both the device and the application.
The CY28346ZC can be used in a number of applications, including communication networks, automotive systems and any other application requiring precise timing control.
