The D2G-T rectifier is composed of a conducting junction between two electrodes, called an anode and a cathode. The anode is the positive terminal, and the cathode is the negative terminal. As the current increases, the diode reaches its saturation current, and the depletion-layer width decreases further, further enhancing the current flow.

When the diode is reversed-biased, the depletion-layer width increases, reducing the current flow and eventually turning the diode off. This reverse-bias current is known as the reverse current and it determines the maximum reverse voltage rating of the diode. The reverse current is used for protection against over-voltage conditions, providing immunity against voltage transients and extended operation in reverse-biased conditions.
