D38999/26MD97PB is a military standard circular connector based on the D38999/26 series second generation design. This type of connector is qualified to stringent radiation, emission and susceptibility criteria and is capable of operating in challenging electromagnetic environments. D38999/26MD97PB connectors are used in various avionics and military applications to interface systems such as fuel tanks, cockpit displays, armament control and other such mission-critical applications.
The D38999/26MD97PB connector offers increased flexibility in mission-critical applications since it is suitable for installation in harsh environmental conditions and has a high level of resistance to shock, vibration and temperature extremes. This makes it an ideal solution for aircraft, aviation and military applications. It is compliant with MIL-DTL-38999 rack and panel connectors, with modifications to increase the contact retention force, and a vibration resistant seal that minimizes the possibility of losing electrical continuity as a result of vibration.
The D38999/26MD97PB has a rated minimum insulation resistance of 1000 MΩ at 25°C, 1000 VDC, and a minimum current rating of 3 amperes per contact. This connector has excellent mechanical and environmental performance qualities and offers superior intermateability, high-cycle mating and high temperature capabilities. The connector is available in four shell sizes designated by its shell size designator, number (SXX).
The D38999/26MD97PB connector works on the principle of electrical continuity. The internal crimping tool attaches pin and socket contacts to the cable which is further connected to the shell. The cable is marked and labeled before termination and contact mounting is retained by the use of metal splices and a residue of epoxy resin. The contacts are inserted into the back-shell cavities and the shells are threaded together. The threads are suppressed by the insertion of the crimped sleeve.
The contact and shell assembly are then subjected to a sealing process that seals the shell halves and prevents water and other contaminates from entering into the connector. After that the pin and socket contacts are seated with the help of an alignment pin and special tool with a notch or saw that fits the captive nuts at each end of the pin or socket contact. All these elements are held together by an anti-rotation device which ensures the contacts remain in their respective shells and are properly aligned.
Overall, the D38999/26MD97PB connector offers a reliable, high-performance solution for demanding mission-critical applications. It is resistant to harsh environmental conditions, is IP68/IP69 rated, has a high level of shock and vibration resistance, and has a minimum rated insulation resistance of 1000 MΩ at 25°C, 1000 VDC.
