D4E-2C20N snap action limit switches are used in a vast array of applications, primarily for the purpose of switching power, signal or other control circuits in industrial automation and robotics. The switch lever is designed to “snap” into a set position when actuated and has a wide variety of functional points, variable contact current and no-voltage types.
In basic operation, a part of the electrical circuit is usually electronically or mechanically “connected” when the lever is pressed or released. This is the basis for the snap action limit switch, and is the key to its use in applications such as safety devices, security alarms, process automation, braking systems, output signal devices or input sensor monitoring.
The D4E-2C20N switch lever is designed with a tri-position feature so that it can be actuated in three positions: open, shut and latching. The latching configuration allows the switch to stay opened or closed until a reset action is manually taken. This configuration allows a variety of functions such as on/off, lighting and alarm indications.
The mechanical construction of the D4E-2C20N snap action limit switch includes a housing, lever, actuating plunger, contact arm and contact point. The housing is made of UL 94V-0 Polycarbonate for excellent shock and vibration resistance, and the switch lever can be adjusted in length and direction. The locking card and switch lever may also be adjusted for an optional maximum open / closed angle, which is established by the customer.
The actuating plunger is spring loaded and when actuated, the plunger pushes the lever, which travels against the force of the spring until the switch lever reaches a pre-set point. Then, the switch lever snaps into place, either closing or opening the contact arm – creating the circuit connection or breaking the connection.
The contact arm consists of two pieces – the contact arm and contact point - which are connected in series. The contact arm is a metal plate that is curved to allow it to take contact with the lever when it is in either the open or the closed position. The contact point is a metal ball bearing that is clamped to the contact arm, creating a spring loaded contact surface between the contact point and the lever when the switch is actuated.
The D4E-2C20N snap action limit switch has a wide variety of contact forms including SPDT (single pole double throw) and DPDT (double pole double throw). SPDT is the most common, and is used for simple on/off switching; DPDT is used for applications requiring two switched circuits. The switch levers can also be adjusted to create varying contact pressures and contact current ratings. This makes the D4E-2C20N ideal for use in applications such as motor, fan and lighting control, robotic programming, and static control.
The D4E-2C20N snap action limit switch is a great solution for applications requiring a reliable and robust switch, with adjustable contact points and wide ranging contact forms. It is made of high quality components and is available in various configurations and current ratings. With a simple yet efficient design, it is perfectly suited to those applications where accuracy and speed are essential.
