DC1207A application field and working principle are designed to power off-line AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS. DC1207A is a two-channel LF and multi-function high-efficiency DC/DC converter. This evaluation board provides an easy platform for power supply designers to to evaluate the design capability and test the prototype quickly.
The DC1207A has two operating modes, Buck mode and Boost mode. In the Buck mode, the operating principles are very simple. The working voltage of the primary side (Vin) is the input voltage input to the board, and the output voltage of the secondary side (Vout) is regulated by controlling the duty cycle of the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control signal.
In the Boost mode, the DC1207A has the additional capacity for peak current control. This peak current control mode uses the output of the PWM control signal as a proportional current reference to control the peak inductor current. A combination of peak current loop and voltage loop gives better pulse response, better stability and better transient response. In this mode, the high side current is automatically controlled by the Loop Control Voltage (LCV). This LCV drives an extra gate driver and resists over-current. Compared with traditional control method, this peak current control method can provide better DC regulation and efficiency.
DC1207A is suitable for a wide range of output voltages, with an output voltage range from 0V to 28V for buck mode and 0V to 55V for the boost mode. The adjustable operating frequency can be set from 100kHz to 1MHz and is a key factor in making PCB features small and saving BOM costs. A one-half time cycle of the duty cycle gives 50% of the output power, and the maximum output power levels of this board can be as high as 2W.
Evaluation with DC1207A is an excellent way to achieve maximum efficiency at a reduced power level. It is a low-cost, high efficiency and multi-function evaluation board, suitable for different applications, such as lighting, home appliances, industrial and communication systems, where low power consumption and good efficiency are preferred. It has a built-in high switching frequency and PWM control, which makes it an ideal choice for applications with simultaneously high efficiency and small size requirements.
In short, DC1207A is an ideal evaluation board for off-line AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS. Its high efficiency control mode, adjustable switching frequency and flexible output voltage range make it suitable for various SMPS applications, and its external pin design allows easy evaluation and testing.
