The DC1228A evaluation board is an off-line switching mode power supply (SMPS) designed to evaluate the performance of the CHB550BK Cascade Power Switch. This evaluation board is mainly used for DC/DC & AC/DC applications in the industrial, consumer electronics, and telecommunications markets.The main components of the DC1228A evaluation board include the CHB550BK, a high-efficiency, low-side-current-mode, synchronous-rectification, non-inverting buck converter. Additionally, the board uses an 8-bit parallel digital stopwatch display and a few power MOSFETs in the power section. The DC1228A evaluation board provides up to 5A of current output, and operates from an input voltage range of 6V to 25.2Vdc. It also has a wide range of output voltage setting options from 0.8V to 10V, making it suitable for powering microcontrollers, FPGAs, and other digital logic devices.The DC1228A evaluation board features a 3-level topology, with a single-ended primary inductor and an output reset circuit. This allows for higher efficiency (>97% at rated load) than other switching converters. Additionally, it features a maximum operating frequency of 250kHz, allowing for smaller and cheaper components.In terms of current sensing, the DC1228A evaluation board has an external current sensing resistor on the output side. This allows for complete control of the duty cycle of the output stage, making it suitable for precision current-mode control applications. Additionally, it provides adjustable protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit fault conditions.The DC1228A evaluation board includes a few passive components in the output section, such as a capacitor array. This allows for extremely low-ripple operation and low EMI/EMC.
