DC1245A is an evaluation board designed to offer a comprehensive solution for electric power needs. It is a full-featured and customizable evaluation board package that allows engineers and designers to quickly and easily evaluate their AC-DC and DC-DC power supply design concepts.
The board can draw from AC voltage ranging from 150 V to 260 V AC, and can deliver power outputs of up to 5 kW. It has been designed to operate as a standard switched-mode power supply, with a full complement of components including input and output filters, current protection, and even active lossless noise-canceling power factor correction (NPF).
The board also offers powerful voltage-controlled and LED/LCD display features, as well as other adjustable control functions. Designers are able to optimize performance based on customer needs. Adding to the versatility is the ability to program the board to target different load conditions, such as peak current, load current, voltage, frequency, and power factor.
At its core, DC1245A works by converting incoming AC power into DC power, depending on flexibility of its operation. This conversion is achieved through the integration of a bridge rectifier, PFC controller, a high-definition switch mode power supply (SMPS) controller, and an output LC filter.
The rectifier part of the process involves converting the AC input power into direct current. This process involves a three-phase diode bridge and provides continuous and invariable current throughout the entire application.
Following the rectifier is a power factor correction (PFC) stage wherein the voltage waveform is manipulated to reduce harmonic distortion, as well as improve the power factor. The PFC controller helps adjust the output voltage waveform and current waveform magnitude in order to bring power factor close to one.
The SMPS controller is the heart of the DC1245A. It consists of half-bridge MOSFET drivers, a PWM controller, a digital-to-analog converter, and a pulse width modulation (PWM) generator. This allows for smooth operation and optimal performance, regardless of the load or frequency of the supplied AC power.
The output LC filter condition the electric current, reducing noise and ripples. This reduces the amount of noise and harmonic distortion that there is in the AC power. The LC filter also helps to flatten the output voltage waveform, providing a more precise control over the output current.
The DC1245A is designed for isolating and providing power to applications involving high-definition switching with ultra-low harmonic levels; high power factor; and also providing precise control over switching frequency.
