Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS are important tools in the development, iteration and testing of switchmode power supply (SMPS) designs. The DC1856A-A is an extremely versatile board designed for ease of use and performance for evaluating multiple parameters and multiple SMPS topologies. It is designed to accept an external 48V or 24V input voltage with output voltage range of 0-32V/4A, as well as more advanced output levels and current requirements. The board includes a temperature-controlled fan with a speed controller, providing both thermal protection and noise control.
The basic circuitry of the board includes the primary rectifier, a half-bridge circuit, the transformer with two secondary outputs, the output filter capacitor, and the output terminal. The half-bridge circuit is comprised of four large N-channel field-effect transistors (FETs) connected in a pair of series-connected half-bridges. The FETs regulate the amount of current that passes through the transformer and the resulting output voltage. The output filter capacitor acts as a voltage buffer, smoothing out any short-term fluctuations in the output voltage. The output terminal provides the connection point to the load that is being powered.
The key component on the board is its microcontroller. The microcontroller runs a proprietary switching algorithm to control the switching operations of the FETs. The switching algorithm is flexible and can be adjusted to accommodate different input voltage levels and desired output voltage levels.
