<p>The DC2171A-B is an evaluation board specifically designed for DC/DC & AC/DC (offline) SMPS applications. It is manufactured by Linear Technology and conveniently supports three types of control topologies – discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), boundary conduction mode (BCM) and current mode control (CMC).</p><p>This evaluation board requires a single, adjustable DC voltage input of either 12V or 30V and comes with a power supply controller LT3745. It supports an output voltage of up to 5V with about 700mV of ripple restriction. The board also features an adjustable output voltage range of 0V to 5V and comes with built-in output power limit circuits, which ensures that the output power is maintained at preset levels. Additionally, the DC2171A-B has a master/slave function with built-in synchronization.</p><p>The DC2171A-B is a highly efficient, flexible and compact evaluation board and it is designed to easily evaluate a large variety of switchers. Its special noninverting buck converter architecture generates an output voltage from a high input voltage for better efficiency. It also offers a variety of multi-phase operation, which means that multiple devices can be connected in series to provide increased output power or to decrease output ripple. The DC2171A-B also features integrated soft-start circuitry and short-circuit protection functions for improved performance.</p><p>When evaluating the DC2171A-B, it is important to understand its working principle. The board is based on a master-slave PWM control topology, wherein the master controller, LT3745 (included in the package), is responsible for generating the logic signals that control the power converter stages. The master controller generates a variable frequency pulse width modulated (PWM) signal and transfers it to the slaves. The slaves spread the signal among the switches and control the output power of the converter.</p><p>Another feature of the board is its adjustable overshoot time limit. This feature allows the user to configure the switch-on time during the start-up phase of the converter. When enabled, the board can quickly switch the converter from the start-up to the steady-state operation without disturbing the output voltage. This reduces the possibility of damage to the components due to overshoot.</p><p>The DC2171A-B board is an ideal solution for evaluating DC/DC & AC/DC (offline) SMPS applications.
