The DC424A is a small, versatile, evaluatable off-line SMPS controller board that provides an easy way to evaluate directly the available field-related SMPS controllers. It is an off-line programmable current source and is ideal for testing AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies.
The DC424A features a small printed circuit board (PCB) with a wide range of options and features, such as a wide input voltage range from 85VAC to 265VAC input, an onboard power supply sampling circuit, various gate drive levels, current limiting, soft start, protection features including under-voltage lockout and voltage clamping, a built-in 3.3V low drop-out (LDO) regulator, and an adjustable loop compensation. It also includes a graphical user interface (GUI) software tool that supports design and simulation of power conversion topologies. The DC424A board includes a high voltage full-bridge rectifier for off-line AC/DC applications. The board also includes a half-bridge rectifier for DC/DC applications.
The DC424A board can be used in a variety of applications including DC/AC inverters, switch-mode power supplies, LED drivers, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) and battery chargers. The flexibility of the DC424A makes it suitable for laboratory experimentation and product development.
The working principle of the DC424A is as follows: The off-line controller converts the incoming AC voltage to a DC voltage by using either a full-bridge rectifier for off-line AC/DC applications or a half-bridge rectifier for DC/DC applications. The optimal regulation loop is achieved by adjusting the output voltage and various protection parameters.
