The DC560A is a digital control evaluation board developed by Texas Instruments, which is used for both DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications. This evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the capabilities and features of the TMS320M724 processor, a 32-bit microcontroller developed by Texas Instruments. The evaluation board features a comprehensive set of peripherals including a dedicated 8-channel D/A converter with 10-bit resolution, as well as 3 V/F converters with 16-bit input and 12-bit output resolutions.

The DC560A is a highly programmable board that can be used for rapid development and prototyping of a wide range of off-line power supplies and SMPS applications. The evaluation board features a USB-based graphical user interface (GUI) which allows the user to control and modify settings for power control, pwm control, and phase control. Additionally, the evaluation board includes a library of control functions including over-current protection, short circuit protection, and programmable voltage or power levels. The evaluation board also offers a real-time scope, enabling users to observe the dynamic performance of their power supply designs in real-time.

In terms of power control, the DC560A provides regulation of the output voltage and current to an adjustable set point using pulse-width modulation (PWM). The power control loop is built up from an error amplifier, oscillator, reference, and voltage or current sensors. The error amplifier compares the output voltage or current with an adjustable set point, and produces a signal to adjust the duty cycle of the PWM accordingly in order to regulate the output. The oscillator provides the signal to modulate the duty cycle of the PWM. The reference is used to create the set point. And the voltage and current sensors provide feedback of the output voltage and current respectively.

Concerninng phase control, the DC560A supports zero-voltage or zero-current switching of one or several FETs. In this case, the control loop is much simpler than power control, and it does not include an error amplifier. Instead, a PLL is used to generate the PWM signal based on the position of the FET conduction points. A set of timing generators are used to set the frequency of the PWM signal, as well as the dead time between the switching of the high and low side FETs.

The DC560A evaluation board is a versatile and powerful tool for prototyping, testing, and debugging power supplies and SMPS applications. The board allows the user to quickly develop and test a wide range of off-line power supplies and SMPS applications.
