DC728A is an evaluation board for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) switch mode power supplies (SMPS). It is a low-cost, two-quadrant, high-efficiency DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion solution ideal for a variety of applications, including industrial, medical, automotive, and communications markets. DC728A has a wide input voltage range of 4-to-60 VDC and provides power up to 120W at regulated output voltages. It also has a wide range of output power levels and user selectable output voltages.
The DC728A evaluation board is capable of using either synchronous or linear mode operation. In synchronous mode, the board switches in both directions to efficiently produce a regulated output voltage with minimal power loss. In linear mode, the board regulates the voltage at the output with a precise reference compared to a reference voltage (Vref) inside the control system. DC728A operates with a variable frequency, pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme. This provides excellent dynamic response characteristics and a high level of efficiency.
The board has an integrated control system based on a generic high-speed microcontroller (MCU). This MCU is dedicated to controlling the board’s power supply operations. The MCU allows the user to program the board according to their requirements. The board also includes pre-set system parameters to allow the user to quickly evaluate the DC728A’s performance.
The board also includes an AC-DC converter that is designed around an integrated AC-DC controller IC and an auxiliary board which contains the necessary components for controlling the power stages. The AC-DC board has two different output voltage ranges (low and high) adjustable across the entire range. The output voltage accuracy is +/- 0.5%.
The DC728A board also features a synchronous rectification stage that is used to reduce power losses. This synchronous rectification feature, combined with the MOSFETs, low gate charge, and fast turn-on characteristics, allows for a highly efficient power conversion. It also reduces the overall system cost.
The DC728A also includes a range of protection features, such as over-voltage and over-current protection, as well as thermal protection. The board is also designed to survive load dump or surprise events without any damage.
The DC728A evaluation board comes with an extensive array of accessories such as adapter boards, test plugs, test cables, and power supply components, as well as a comprehensive user guide. It is an excellent tool for prototype development, system evaluation, and product design.
