The DC782A-D Evaluation Board was designed specifically for high performance, low power sampling applications, such as medical imaging, industrial measurement, radar and communication systems. The board is based on the Analog Devices AD9874 Sigma-Delta Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), which has a 12-bit data resolution and is designed to operate at a single, fixed sample rate frequency. The DC782A-D Evaluation Board comprises four components that work together to provide the desired conversion performance: the AD9874 ADC, the AD8245 Quantinator, the AD9863 Reference Clock Generator, and the Logic Interface. The Analog Devices AD9874 Sigma-Delta A to D Converters (ADC) is a high speed, evolving, low power converter. It has a 12-bit resolution and is designed to operate at a sampling rate of 102.4 kHz. This ADC provides a voltage input, as well as a differential reference input that provides precision timing. The AD9874 On-Chip Quantizer couples to the Sigma-Delta Modulator to "emulate" the classical successive approximation register (SAR) A/D conversion method.
The AD8245 Quantinator is a low-noise Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converter that supports high current drive capability. The AD8245 is designed for use in applications where the input signal is noisy, such as portable medical systems and portable data-acquisition systems. The on-chip output buffer ensures an optimal signal-to-noise ratio and fast settling time. The Quantinator provides a low-cost, low-noise solution for high-frequency sampling applications such as ultrasound.
The AD9863 Reference Clock Generator is designed for use in data conversion applications that require low jitter and low phase noise such as frequency synthesizers, clock and data recovery systems, Digital Signal Processors, and imaging systems. The on-chip integrated oscillator uses a temperature-compensated quartz crystal from the Standard Crystal Oscillator family. The clock output is adjustable between 0 and 25dBm over a frequency range of 1.3 MHz to 11.3 MHz.
The Logic Interface on the DC782A-D Evaluation Board provides additional features, such as an interrupt generation pin, serial data output and data valid enable pins. The interrupt pin allows the ADC to generate an interrupt signal whenever the ADC has finished a conversion cycle. The serial data output pin provides a serial data interface that is compatible with standard parallel interfaces. The data valid enable pins provide an indication of the data integrity coming out of the ADC.
