DC797A application field and working principle

DC797A is a high performance isolated DC-DC converter electric evaluation board developed by TDK-Lambda. This board has a wide range of applications, including industrial, IT, medical, and power supplies. It offers a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 53V, a maximum output of 18A (with low loss), and a high efficiency up to 95%. The DC797A also features low ripple and noise, as well as a boost capability. The DC797A utilizes a synchronous rectified full bridge converter topology which is in demand in many applications due to its high efficiency and good thermal performance. This topology uses one high power MOSFET switch driven by a low-power switching signal to perform the rectification process. The MOSFET switch is then followed by a synchronous buck converter, which is used to regulate the output current. The use of both active switches allows for better performance and the ability to reach higher power levels. The DC797A is powered by a low-Voltage Power Supply transformer (TRX). The transformer is used to generate a low-voltage, low-energy, and stable power supply for the evaluation board. This power supply is then connected to the evaluation board’s power switch, which enables the board to perform its functions. The DC797A has two controllers: an adjustable buck controller and a synchronous rectifier controller. The adjustable buck controller provides the main switching and regulation functions, while the synchronous rectifier controller is responsible for the control of the high side and low side MOSFET switches. The buck controller provides an adjustable output voltage and output current regulation, as well as the protection against over current and over temperature. The synchronous rectifier controller ensures the proper driving of the MOSFETs, protecting them from short circuit, over temperature, and reverse connections. The evaluation board also features a galvanic isolation barrier, which isolates the input and output circuits. This barrier ensures that no destructive transient voltage is transmitted between the input and output circuits. This insulation helps to protect the equipment connected to the evaluation board from potential interferences. Finally, the DC797A features an extensive Test and Monitoring System (TMS-6). This system is used to monitor the operation of the evaluation board. It enables the user to access the monitoring data, such as output voltage and output current values, and to verify the performance of the board during its operation. In addition, it allows the user to update the firmware of the board as needed, making it more reliable and secure. In conclusion, the DC797A evaluation board is a low-Voltage Power Supply transformer powered, synchronous rectified full bridge converter type electric evaluation board. It features a wide input range, high efficiency, and a high power output. This evaluation board features galvanic isolation, adjustable buck controller, and synchronous rectifier controller, as well as a built-in test and monitoring system and comprehensive protection against over current, over temperature, and short circuit. With these features, the DC797A evaluation board offers a reliable and efficient solution for various industrial, IT, medical, and power supply applications.
