The DC846A Evaluation Board for Analog to Digital Conversion (ADC) is a versatile demo kit from Texas Instruments that offers engineers and designers the possibility of quickly testing and evaluating the performance of data converters. This evaluation board is designed for Texas Instruments\' latest ADC, the ADS8320, which offers a variety of features for capturing analog waveforms.
In addition, the DC846A board serves as a platform for testing of analog to digital converters and measuring performance parameters such as accuracy, linearity, signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, and total harmonic distortion (THD). It features a complete interface to the application with a wide variety of user selectable functions. The DC846A board is designed to support a broad range of experiments by providing the capability to select from a variety of input waveforms, gain settings, bit resolution, and data format.
The DC846A Evaluation Board also provides an integrated system view to the designer in order to understand the real-time performance of the device by providing a wide range of characteristics including gain, bandwidth, sampling rate, and conversion resolution. This system also features eight user-selectable gain settings (0 to +9.8 dB), and four user-selectable data formats. The data is then processed using TI’s 32-bit Texas Instruments C28x HelixDSP processor to determine the performance parameters of the converter.
At the heart of the DC846A board is the ADS8320 ADC, which features the highest common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) in the industry, as well as excellent differential linearity for bipolar signals. It operates from a single supply voltage, and is programmable for gain and offset to enable the configuration of a range of gains from 0 to +9.8 dB and offset voltages from 0mV to 4.2V. The ADC measures input signals up to 4.2V and offers an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of up to 88 dB and total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.1%.
The DC846A Evaluation Board works by passing an input signal into the board’s conditioner. The signal is then digitized using the ADS8320 ADC. The ADC’s output is converted into digital signal formats for immediate display or analysis. The system also has the ability to be programmed using PC software.
The DC846A Evaluation Board is suitable for a wide range of applications, including frequency shift keying (FSK), digital-to-analog conversion (DAC), and signal conditioning. The board is designed to be used with any 16- and/or 32-bit microcontroller or DSP, and can be integrated into existing systems with ease. It is also compatible with many development software packages, such as Microsoft Visual Studio or Code Composer Studio.
In summary, the DC846A Evaluation Board is a powerful tool that allows engineers and designers to quickly evaluate and validate the performance of the ADS8320 analog to digital converter. The device offers a wide range of features, including gain, bandwidth, sampling rate, and conversion resolution. It also offers an excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of up to 88 dB and total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.1%. Furthermore, the board is easy to use and can be integrated into existing systems with ease.
