Introduction

DC903A-A is an evaluation board for stand-alone offline, DC/DC & AC/DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). It showcases the performance and capabilities of Texas Instruments’ new LM53002 Series SWIFT™ 4.0 mµPower™ Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). Its design has been optimized to meet the stringent requirements of numerous applications within the automotive, industrial and medical segment. The DC903A-A offers designers a high integration level of an offline converter with no additional external components required.

Application field

The DC903A-A evaluation board is ideal for meeting various industry needs such as automotive infotainment, autonomous driving, e-mobility, medical devices, as well as industrial applications, including energy efficient motor drives, smart metering, automation, sensor power, and IoT. This evaluation board is also suitable for use in harsh environments where a reliable and robust performance is required. It can be easily and quickly configured to meet any output voltage and current requirements ranging from 1V to 400V and 85mA to 8A (±3%).

Working Principle

At its core is the LM53002 Series Switch-Mode Power Supply Controller. This is a highly integrated device which can power both output voltages from a single input voltage source. It can be configured for a wide range of output voltages from 1V to 400V or up to 450V (bridged). A wide range of output current capabilities from 85mA to 8A (±3%) can also be achieved. The DC903A-A evaluation board is specially designed to be used with external switches to enable the switching sequence.The external switches are used to set the operating parameters and control the high and low side switches. When the operating parameters are selected, the pins of the external switches are internally connected to the on board controllers. These controllers switch the high and low side switching devices and therefore control the power conversion process of the DC/DC & AC/DC SMPS.The LM53002 Series controllers also allow a wide range of operating temperatures of -40°C to +150°C. They provide high frequency operation for reduced size and higher efficiency. Additionally, the controller features many other features and benefits, making it ideal for numerous applications, including automotive, medical, and industrial.
