The DC960A is a type of off-line switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board that operates in both DC-DC and AC-DC modes. In DC-DC mode, it acts as a Buck converter, providing a stable output voltage and current that can be regulated dependably. In AC-DC mode, it can act as an isolated, regulated power supply, providing both low output voltage and high output current. With its adjustable buck output, the DC960A is well suited for applications such as Buck converters, isolated voltage linears, and low-power, high-isolation DC supplies.

In both modes, it features a wide output voltage range of up to 40 VDC and up to 8 A of output current. The DC960A also supports a wide variety of different input voltages, including single-phase AC, two-phase AC, and DC inputs. It is equipped with a power-failure detection circuit, which allows it to detect when line voltage exceeds a certain threshold, cutting off supply power and preventing damage to any connected circuits.

The DC960A also features a unique current-limiting function. This function allows it to effectively limit the output current during peak events, ensuring that excessive amounts of current are not drawn from the power source, thus preventing damage to downstream components. Additionally, the DC960A includes a built-in self-test feature, which can monitor the circuit performance and alert the user if any faults are detected.

The DC960A can be easily configured for a wide range of applications. It includes an adjustable voltage reference, which can be adjusted to provide either a positive or negative output. It also features adjustable turn-off and turn-on thresholds, which can be set to ensure reliable and consistent control. Finally, the DC960A includes various protection functions, such as over-voltage, over-temperature, and over-current protection, to help guard against major damage.

The DC960A is designed to operate in both open- and closed-loop control modes. In open-loop control, the DC960A can act as a basic Buck regulator, using an adjustable reference voltage to set the output voltage. In this mode, the DC960A does not require a feedback signal to adjust the output, making it ideal for applications that do not require fine voltage control. The DC960A also supports closed-loop control, where a feedback signal is used to ensure stable output voltage and current regulation.

When used with an appropriate transformer, the DC960A can be used to build a high-efficiency, isolated SMPS. The ability to adjust the turns ratio on the secondary side of the transformer allows the user to easily fine-tune the output voltage and current. Additionally, its wide input voltage and input current ranges make the DC960A ideal for applications that require safe operation over a wide range of conditions.

The DC960A is an excellent choice for applications that require off-line switch mode supply solutions. With its adjustable buck output, wide input and output voltages, and overload protection circuit, the DC960A is a reliable and cost-effective option for powering a wide range of applications. Its built-in self-test feature and adjustable turn-off and turn-on thresholds make the DC960A even more secure, helping to prevent damage to downstream components. And its ability to operate in both open- and closed-loop control modes makes the DC960A highly flexible and adaptable to a variety of situations.
