DCPA10512EVM-861 is a switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board designed to enable a designer to evaluate the performance of the DCPA10512 controller IC. Application Field
The DCPA10512EVM-861 evaluation board is designed for the testing of power converters such as AC-DC, DC-DC, and SMPS. Working Principle
The DCPA10512EVM-861 consists of a power supply circuit, and integrated controller IC (IC1). The power supply circuit for IC1 includes the rectifier bridge (BR1), a power choke (L1) to reduce input ripple, and a filter capacitor (C1). The DC output is regulated by the feedback voltage (VFB), which is read by the integrated controller IC (IC1). The output voltage can be adjusted using the on-board pot R3, while the power MOSFET (Q1) is controlled by the integrated controller IC (IC1) via the EN_PIN signal.
The evaluation board is powered by an AC power input, either directly from a wall plug, or from an isolated DC input, such as a portable battery. The integrated controller IC (IC1), which is used to control the power MOSFET (Q1), is designed to provide a high efficiency, low losses, and fast transient operation. The board features two power switches, a manual on-off switch (SW1) and a soft-start/tracking switch (SW2). The built-in temperature sensor (T1) monitors the output voltage and the temperature of the power MOSFET (Q1). An external thermal operating sensor can also be added to the board to monitor the actual devices power dissipation.
Other features of the DCPA10512EVM-861 include on-board voltage regulation, short-circuit protection, and an optional secondary current sense feedback circuit. The voltage feedback circuit is available as an on-board option, while the current feedback can be added externally.
