The primary purpose of using fixed inductors is to provide a magnetic field that is uniform in space and time for the purpose of filtering or controlling electric current. Electrical current flow through a coil of wire winding round the iron core of the fixed inductor, which in turn creates a magnetic field. The magnitude of the magnetic field intensity created within the core is determined by the amount of current flowing and the number of turns in the coil of wire (the number of turns determines the inductance). The magnetic flux within the core is proportional to the effective area of the core and the number of turns of the inductor coil, which is the same as the amount of current passing through it.The magnetic field produced by the fixed inductor wraps the coil, thus forcing the electric charges moving in the coil to be deflected. This deflection creates a counter electromotive force, which opposes the flow of the electric current. The resulting electrical energy losses (eddy currents and hysteresis losses) in the core dissipate as energy in the form of heat. To maintain a relatively constant current for a given amount of time, the inductance of the fixed inductor must increase as the frequency changes. Overall, the fixed inductor is used to ensure the flow of current and control current in an efficient and stable manner.
