DFR0008 is an integrated expansion board developed by WaveShare, which is mainly used for Raspberry Pi. It is composed of 3 parts, a 10-potential soil moisture detection module, a 16-channel relay control module, and an 8-channel level converter. It is easy to install and use, so it can become a small application system. To perform garden management, water systems, irrigation control, electric control, signal detection, and distant measuring, the working principle and application field of DFR0008 are suggested for better understanding of DFR0008.

Working Principle

The 10-potential soil moisture detection module is combined of 10 different probes. The capacitance produced by the probe and the soil will change along with the soil moisture. Thus, this module is used to detect the moisture of soil. The 16-channel relay control module is composed of a controller and relays, which support 3.3V and 5V logic level. Switches connected with the relays act as a switch from the integrated circuit, and the voltage can be adjusted by using the integrated chip. The 8-channel level converter is used for adapting the low level signal to the high level signal. When connecting the low level signal source to the module, it will turn on its corresponding relay.

Application Field

DFR0008 can be applied to various fields, such as garden management, water systems, Irrigation control, electric control, signal detection, and distance measuring. First of all, the soil moisture detection module and the 8-channel level converter makes it possible for DFR0008 to be used in managing garden. Despite the wild growth of plants in the garden, the DFR0008 can provide a more precise and professional soil moisture checking, and watering decision can be made to enhance the growth of plants.The 16-channel relay control module also offers an extensive application in garden management. The water pump can be connected to the module, and the power supply of the pump can be remotely switch on to water the plants. Moreover, the coverage of the water can be set up through the 16-channel relay control module for more efficient watering management.Furthermore, the 16-channel relay control module supports 3.3V, 5V logic level, which makes DFR0008 applicable for electric control. The on/off of the electric equipment can be remotely controlled. As for the 8-channel level converter, it can help safeguard the system from the damage caused by electrical appliances.Aside from garden management, DFR0008 can be used in other fields, such as water systems, irrigation control, signal detection, and distance measuring. For water systems, DFR0008 can monitor the water level and alert when the water level is too low; for the irrigation control, the users can adjust the water flow and distribute the water by using the 16-channel relay control module; for the signal detection, DFR0008 can detect whether the cables are plugged in correctly by the level converter; and for the distance measuring, the moisture content sensed by the 10-potential soil moisture detection module can be transmitted to the server to measure the distance between DFR0008 and the server.
