The DFR0552 evaluation board from NXP is designed to provide the user with flexible options when it comes to experiments and designing devices. The board is able to measure light intensity and control dimming from 0.1 to 100%.
In terms of applications, the DFR0552 is most suitable for remote sensing systems in the healthcare, agriculture, and environment industries. As these industries often have to detect and control light, the board provides a reliable and efficient solution. Additionally, it can be used for a broad range of temperature sensing applications as it has a temperature sensor integrated in its package.
The board works on the concept of photo intensive variation. The measured signal is converted into digital information and then sent to the µC via an interrupt pin. This signal is then used for dimming, controlling, and creating lighting algorithms, as well as energy-saving control systems.
When operating, the DFR0552 is powered by an external voltage regulator supplied by an LDO regulator and an external power source. This external power source is typically connected to the board’s 5V pin. The board is also equipped with standard CAN connections, and a five-pin DIN connector which provides access to the standard 3.3V LDO regulator output.
At the heart of the board lies the NXP’s ARM Cortex-M0 MCU. This highly integrated controller enables fast execution of the light-detection algorithms, as well as spectral range control. Additionally, the board also contains the temperature accessory IC and an LED driver, which is used to control the brightness of the LEDs.
The DFR0552 evaluation board provides the user with both a cost-effective and efficient platform for testing and experimentation.
