Working Principle

The DGS35-3L405000 encoder operates on the Quadrature principle. Quadrature encoders are based on the four-state encoding scheme. Each of the two output channels has two outputs, A and B, that generate a pulse train when the encoder shaft rotates. Both outputs are 90° out of phase, which allows the direction of the movement to be determined. As the encoder is moved, the output channels A and B both produce a square wave signal, which is in phase with the corresponding angle of rotation.

The DGS35-3L405000 encoder features dual-edge detection to increase resolution and accuracy. This technology takes advantage of the shaded patterning of the magnetic disc used in the encoder to allow two counts per single rotation of the encoder. In quadrature phase, this means that the encoder can detect movement in four distinct phases depending on the direction of rotation of the disc.
