Working Principle of DM130352 Connector

The aim of DM130352 connector is for connecting a single shielded cable to a modular port with an angle of 166°. This connector contains two rows of pin and socket contacts, each row in two parts separated by an insulator in order to avoid resistance connections.

The internal panel shell of the connector has an overall length of 57mm and four pillars for mounting. Then it has an insulation displacement contact (IDC) for the cable that connects the inner shield and the shell. It is equipped with a threaded-latch locking system which ensures that the connector is firmly held in place when the latch is engaged and keeps contacts in good connection when the connector is mated.

The contact on the inner side carries the electrical current, while the contact on the outer side is located at the signal side to provide shielding. The connector comes with two polarizing features: a guide key that has to be fitted into a mating slot in the port and cable and a groove and pin.

The contact used to connect the cable to the port is a precision machined contact made of beryllium copper and plated with gold in order to provide a reliable and corrosion-resistant connection. It is installed by crimping or soldering, depending on the application.

The insulation displacement contact (IDC) is typically made of brass and is plated with gold or silver, then a protective coating is added on top and it needs to be pressed with the corresponding tool to complete the connection.

The threaded-latch locking system consists of two parts: a metallic “hook”to hold the connector in place and an internal thread. The hook is screwed into the port and it is released when the connector is inserted.
