Film capacitors, also known as “paper capacitors,” are a type of capacitor composed of thin, solid dielectric layers made from polyester, polypropylene, and polycarbonates. They are constructed in a manner similar to traditional capacitors, featuring two conductive plates separated by a dielectric material. Film capacitors are a more reliable alternative to ceramic and other imperfectly insulated polar electrochemical capacitors, and are therefore widely used in all sorts of electrical and electronic circuit applications. One such application is the DME4S1K-F capacitor.

The DME4S1K-F film capacitor is a single-split metallized polypropylene film capacitor designed for use in electronic circuits where reliability, stability, and dielectric insulation are important factors. It features a polypropylene film dielectric, an external copper wrapper for shielding, a copper-alloy inner core for robust mechanical strength, and external lead wires for electrical connection. The capacitor is also designed to be self-healing; when an excessive voltage is applied, it releases energy to remove any local damage to the film and regain full function immediately. Due to its exceptional stability, the DME4S1K-F is suitable for applications where small-signal AC filtering and high capacitance values are necessary.

In addition to its small size, the DME4S1K-F offers superior working temperature range of -55 C to +155 C. This makes the device suitable for use in extreme temperatures, as well as in high frequency switching mode power supplies, LEDs, and lighting systems. The device is rated for a working voltage of 100 VDC, and is available in multiple capacitance values between 0.1-1.0µF. Its superior insulating properties make it suitable for demanding medical and automotive applications.
