Film Capacitors

Film capacitors are capacitors that use thin polymer film as a dielectric material to achieve high capacitance per volume – and therefore high voltage rating per volume. This makes them ideal for use in high voltage applications such as UPS models, motor drives, solar inverters and servers.

The DPP4S33K-F film capacitor is a proprietary design from Genteq. It is an axial-lead capacitor with a rated voltage of 33kV and a capacitance of up to 3.3µF, making it suitable for a range of electro-mechanical applications.

DPP4S33K-F Working Principle

The DPP4S33K-F film capacitor comprises two metal layers that have a thin layer of polymer film between them. This polymer film is the dielectric, or insulating material, between the two plates. The two metal layers are connected to two terminals and the electrical current can flow between them, using the polymer film as the insulating material.

When an electric field is applied across the two plates, the film acts as a resistance to the flow of current, thus storing the electrical charge until the electric field is removed. This stored energy provides the capacitance, and the higher the applied voltage, the higher the capacitance and resulting electric field.

The DPP4S33K-F film capacitor supports a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for a variety of industrial, automotive and other applications.
