Overview of DRV411EVM

DRV411EVM is a solution provided by Texas Instruments. DRV411 is a four-channel current sensing and monitoring device for medium- and high-side current sensing applications. The DRV411 evaluation module (EVM) contains a DRV411 device, allowing evaluation of all features of the DRV411 device. The device monitors up to four independent current pathways and each pathway is connected to the DRV411 device through two series resistors.

Application Field

This evaluation module is especially designed for medium-and high-side current sensing applications in the automotive industry, including powertrain, chassis, body and infotainment systems. The DRV411EVM can be used to evaluate current sensing applications in motor control and drive systems, such as those for blowers, pumps, fans, motors, and solenoids. It can also be used to evaluate current sensing applications in industrial motor control systems, BLDC systems, and low voltage ACDC power supplies.

In addition, the EVM can be used to evaluate current sensing applications in power supply systems, including those for DC/DC converters, LED lighting, computer power supplies, telecom power supplies, and other low and medium voltage AC/DC power supplies.

Working Principle

The working principle of theDRV411EVM is simple. The DRV411 device is configured with four individual channels and each channel is connected to the DRV411 device through two series resistors. Each channel can monitor up to four independent current pathways. The resistors force a low voltage across the device which is proportional to the current passing through the resistors.

The DRV411 device has a high accuracy voltage sensing amplifier with wide input range. It also has an integrated temperature sensor to measure the ambient temperature which can be used to provide an accurate temperature compensation. The DRV411 device provides an adjustable threshold detection circuit with programmable time delays and hysteresis features to detect fault conditions. The device also provides open-drain fault output pins to indicate and latch fault conditions to a microcontroller or a gate driver circuit.
