The DRV8805EVM (Evaluation and Demonstration Board) provides a platform for engineers to evaluate the devices of Texas Instruments. It is also featured with high/low side drive circuit which can provide current measurement through sense pins and allow variable gate driver voltage control.The DRV8805EVM provides an engineering platform to evaluate operational control logic, voltage input and output, current sensing, feedback, electromechanical speed control, and power/control loop performance. It also monitors the motor drive output frequencies, current draw, voltage input and output, and temperature. The basic working principle is that, when the device is powered, the supply voltage is shifted from positive to negative and back, driving the motor. The speed and direction of the motor is determined by the rate at which the voltage is shifted. When the voltage shifts, a voltage waveform is generated in the motor. This waveform helps to drive the motor in its desired direction at the desired speed.The DRV8805EVM is also compatible with the MSP430F5438AQT microcontroller. This microcontroller is used to generate pulse-width modulated signals to drive the motor. It also includes other features such as an SPI-controlled, four-channel, non-isolated, analog-to-digital converter; a five-channel PWM controller; an RS-232 UART; and an I2C interface.
