DRV8881EPWPR is a high-performance, low-noise stepper motor pre-driver. This device uses a 48-pin VQFN package and operates with a wide input voltage range of 8 V~80 V. DRV8881EPWPR features a built-in hardware stepping motor pre-driver and precise speed/position adjustment with a 4-bit ALU, 6-bit depth, up to 2 MHz step frequency, and current control down to 0.1mA. The function of the integrated BLDC (brushless DC) motor is seamless, and the built-in I2C controller allows tuning of the setting parameters.The DRV8881EPWPR has 4 control and power amplifier (CPA) outputs, providing 4×50 W of power to control each motor phase. It also has two channels of preamplifiers to simplify the design of a single symmetric motor. The integrated pre-driver is capable of accurately controlling up to 4 motors and generating an output voltage up to 40V.

Working Principle of DRV8881EPWPR

It integrates the control logic, four control and power amplifiers (CPA) output stages and two pre-drivers which configure a single symmetric Motor configuration. It uses Texas Instruments’ patented peak current mode to adjust the current and speed of the motor.The peak current mode loop adjusts the amount of current through the motor by comparing the sensed phase current to a reference. The sensed phase current is sensed through the external current sensing resistor and the central processor unit (CPU) controls the integrated four CPA output stages through a digital modulation scheme. The CPA output drivers are controlled by a 4-bit ALU, 6-bit depth, up to 2MHz step frequency, and current that can be controlled down to 0.1 mA.
