The DS1080CLU+ is a versatile clock synthesizer/multiplier that enables customers to achieve a wide range of clock frequencies while providing the flexibility to configure the device’s internal timing components. The device can generate a wide range of different clock frequencies from the same clock inputs by multiplying or dividing each one. It offers a selection of up to 25 frequency synthesizer outputs from a variety of clock sources such as crystal oscillators, or from other external or internal clock sources.
The DS1080CLU+ is designed for high-performance clock and timing applications requiring analogue or digital clock generation. For example, it is well-suited for communications and imaging technologies, network and DSP processors, memory controllers and other clock generation or distribution applications. It can also be used for video, audio, and data synchronisation as well as timing, clocking and phase-locked loop (PLL) applications.
The DS1080CLU+ offers a high level of clock generation and distribution flexibility, allowing customers to configure and customize the device’s outputs to meet the precise clocking needs of the application. It includes three configurable loop circuits that are used to generate and synchronize clock signals to a preferred frequency. The first loop is a fractional-N frequency divider, which is used to control the output frequency via a digital control using A-N signals (or an external voltage source). The second loop is a phase-locked loop (PLL), and the third loop is a programmable oscillator for third-order data and frequency synthesizer applications.
The PLL loop can be used to generate a wide range of clock frequencies from a single clock source. The PLL loop is designed to lock the device’s internal VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator) onto the same frequency as an incoming clock signal, such as a VCXO or high-speed crystal oscillator. This allows the DS1080CLU+ to accurately generate a variety of frequencies from a single clock source. The PLL loop also features on-the-fly, frequency hopping capability and phase alignment correction between the input and output frequencies.
The DS1080CLU+ includes two outputs, which are perpetually locked onto the input frequency. The outputs can be individually configured in order to meet the exact requirements of the application, such as clock multiples or dividers, or frequency and phase alignment. Each output also includes an adjustable slew rate and variable duty cycle control.
