Working Principle
The DS1080LU+T integrated clock generator works on a principle of selecting a low-jitter crystal oscillator (LXO) as the reference frequency and then digitally controlling the frequency deviation. This is accomplished by a digital-controlled oscillator (DCO) structure, which contains an output buffer and various frequency control loops. The DCO generates a signal with a frequency that is dependent on an analog control voltage that is generated from the LXO. The output buffer is used to condition the signal and enable it to drive the load.
In addition to providing frequency accuracy, the DS1080LU+T integrated clock generator also provides tight jitter performance. Jitter is a measure of the time-domain variation of the clock signal, and is typically a function of the frequency accuracy.
