Working Principle
The DS1091LUA-055/V+ contains two independent PLLs, each of which is capable of generating any desired clock frequency with excellent jitter performance. The first PLL (PLL1) is a frequency synthesizer with a range from 1 MHz to 150 MHz, and the second PLL (PLL2) is a frequency synthesizer with a frequency range from 0.25 MHz to 40 MHz. Both PLLs also have a reference clock input, which can be used to create frequencies above the maximum frequency of the corresponding PLL.
The PLLs in the DS1091LUA-055/V+ are based on the Phase Locked Loop (PLL) topology. The device consists of a phase detector, a charge pump, an analog filter and a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). This topology enables the PLL to lock onto a reference frequency and generate output clocks with very fast acquisition and phase-noise performance.
