The DS1091LUA-330+T is a low-cost, low-noise clock generator from Maxim Integrated. The DS1091LUA-330+T is specifically designed as a cost-effective source of high-precision time base signals in a compact 8-pin package. It is a versatile clock generator which can be used to generate multiple outputs at various frequencies.

The DS1091LUA-330+T working principle is based on a phase-locked loop (PLL) phase-locked loop (PLL), where frequency synthesizers are used in combination with voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs). A VCO is a device that can generate an output frequency over a wide range of frequencies using an external control voltage. The frequency synthesizer acts as a programmable clock generator, by “synthesizing” the desired clock frequency from the VCO’s wide range of frequencies. The PLL locks the frequency of the synthesized output to the input frequency, adjusting the VCO’s control voltage if required. The output frequency is adjustable by programming a crystal or reference clock frequency.
The DS1091LUA-330+T also uses a patented digital-lock technique known as “preset-lock”, which allows the device to be pre-configured with a known reliable clock frequency before the PLL locks. This digital-lock feature provides the user with a high-precision time base source, with very low jitter and fast settling times.
