The DS1306E+T&R Real Time Clock (RTC) is one of the most common and advanced type of real time clocks that are used in applications such as industrial and personal computers. It is especially designed for computer applications such as critical timing, embedded controllers, clock distribution, system counters and battery-backed RAM. The DS1306E+T&R is a complete real time clock with integrated crystal oscillator, temperature compensation, auto-calibration, power control, clock chip and extensive software control.

The DS1306E+T&R application field includes Critical Timing Applications such as Control System Interface, Process Interfacing, Network Control, Open System Timers, Battery Backed-up RAM, Automotive, Industrial and Consumer Applications. Its main working principle is to generate high accuracy and reliability on the time of data transmission. It uses the quartz crystal assembly to generate high accuracy and stability on time signal. The crystal assembly consists of a quartz oscillator, a temperature sensor and driver circuit. When the DS1306E+T&R is in operation, it will measure the crystal oscillator frequency with high accuracy and then runs software corrections applications that provide the required stability on the time signal. Moreover, the DS1306E+T&R can also automatically compensate for temperature drifts and other temperature influences.

The DS1306E+T&R can be controlled and programmed through the system bus interface and clock chip. It has many features such as including a clock chip and in-circuit voltage regulation, an integrated crystal oscillator, a temperature sensing and temperature compensation, auto-calibration and software control. These features allow the clock to adjust its time registers parameters according to the time signal it receives. The time registers are also used to collect and display the time, event and any other feedback. This diversity of data and control capabilities makes the DS1306E+T&R ideal for use in alarms, PCs, networks, and data processors.

The DS1306E+T&R also offers excellent readability and accuracy, with accuracy to 100ppm (parts per million) at 77°F.
