DS2437S/T&R

Battery Management technology is an important element in the development of modern products, from mobile phones to electric vehicles.The DS2437S/T&R from Maxim Integrated is a cost effective, single-cell Li-Ion battery management solution for space and cost constrained applications in the portable, industrial and medical sectors. This low-power device is designed to protect the battery pack and allow battery management in real-time, while conserving power and circuit board space.

The DS2437S/T&R features an advanced direct-to-digital converter with 2-bit accuracy and a small footprint. It has a minimum 1% over voltage and under voltage peak detectors, and a low 1.08 μA quiescent current with peak current of 1.7 μA, allowing the DS2437S/T&R to achieve a typical standby current of 0.3 μA. Its precision power monitoring enables battery health and capacity management, so the device can detect if the battery is being overcharged or if the capacity is diminishing. The DS2437S/T&R also has shutdown due to low voltage, temperature range, and battery energy detection, allowing the designer to safely protect the cell from overcharging or discharging below specified voltages. Furthermore, the device includes protection for both the end user and the product, by shutting down when the temperature is too high or the cell voltage has dropped too low.

The DS2437S/T&R also features 3-bit accuracy temperature measurement. A user-programmable temperature alarm can be used to notify the system that the battery needs charging. It also has a real-time clock, allowing the system to accurately measure the elapsed time since the last charging session. The internal RTC operates in temperature compensated Time-to-Empty or Temperature-to-Sleep (TTS) mode, which measures the remaining capacity of the battery.

The DS2437S/T&R also features charger enable, charge complete and over temperature detection features. Additionally, the 2-bit over and under voltage protection allows the system to protect the battery from overcharging and discharging. Furthermore, the device supports integrated cell balancing and gas gauge capabilities, so that the battery can be safely balanced and monitored in real-time.
